What's the difference between a 1500 and a 2500 truck?
A 1500 (half-ton) is rated to tow roughly 8,000–13,000 lbs depending on configuration and is comfortable as a daily driver. A 2500 (three-quarter-ton) is built for heavier loads — fifth-wheel campers, bigger boats, work trailers — and rides stiffer. For most south Mississippi buyers a 1500 crew cab is plenty of truck. If you tow over 10,000 lbs regularly, look at a 2500.
Gas or diesel for a used truck?
For most buyers, gas. Modern gas V8s (5.3L Chevy, 5.7L HEMI, 5.0L Ford) are reliable, cheap to maintain, and capable of typical tow loads. Diesel makes sense only if you're towing heavy (over 10,000 lbs) regularly, or you put 20,000+ miles a year on the truck. Diesel maintenance is more expensive, and modern diesel emissions equipment (DEF, DPF) can be costly when it fails.
What's the most reliable used half-ton truck?
Toyota Tundra (2007–2021 5.7L V8) has the strongest long-term reliability record — many examples cross 300,000 miles. Ford F-150 (5.0L V8 trims), Chevy Silverado (5.3L V8), and Ram 1500 (5.7L HEMI) are all solid choices with strong parts availability across Mississippi.
