LS Tractors Near Sumrall, MS: What Lamar County Land Needs

Sumrall-area landowners run cattle, manage timber edges, and maintain food plots. Here is how the LS compact and utility lineup fits that work.

Lamar County land around Sumrall runs the full range. You get open pasture, pine timber lines that creep in on the edges, gravel driveways that wash out after every hard rain, and if you hunt, food plots tucked into clearings in the pines. It is a mix of jobs, and if you are looking for a tractor to handle all of it, size matters more than most people expect when they start shopping.

We are Dykes Motors, the authorized LS dealer at 3069 Hwy 49 in Collins, a short drive north of Sumrall up Highway 49. We stock the full LS lineup from sub-compact to utility, and we work with buyers from Lamar County regularly who are working through the same decision: compact or step up.

You can see what we carry at our Sumrall LS tractor page, and browse the full compact tractor lineup before you make the trip.

MT232HE compact tractor with loader, Collins MS

The question we hear most often from Sumrall-area buyers is whether 30 horsepower is enough. For a lot of land in this part of Lamar County, the answer is yes, with some conditions worth knowing.

The MT232HE is the machine we point most folks to first. It runs a 31.7 HP Yanmar diesel on a hydrostatic transmission, so there is no clutch to manage. You push the pedal, you go. Let off, you stop. That responsiveness matters when you are doing loader work on a sloped driveway or making tight turns at the corner of a food plot clearing. The LL3003 loader pairs with it at 2,506 pounds of lift and a 66-inch bucket. You can move gravel, push dirt, and handle a round bale without working the machine hard.

At the 3-point hitch, it lifts 1,808 pounds, which carries a 60-inch rotary cutter without straining. In Lamar County in August, that matters. Grass along timber edges and food plot clearings gets tall and thick through the summer, and the 26.2 PTO horsepower keeps a cutter moving through it. Rotary cutters, box blades, and graders that pair with the compact frame are on our attachments page.

Where a 30 HP machine starts showing its limits is on longer stretches of heavy brush or when the loader is working most of the day. If your driveway runs a quarter mile and needs regular grading, or you are bush hogging more open pasture than a weekend can cover, you will feel the difference.

The MT242HE handles that heavier work. It steps up to 42.5 HP and 34.8 PTO horsepower on the same hydrostatic transmission and 4WD setup. The bigger engine runs cooler under sustained load, which is worth something when you are on the tractor all afternoon in south Mississippi summer. Same LL3003 loader, same compact frame, same basic size for maneuvering in tight spots near the timber. For 25 to 50 acres with more open ground and heavier brush work, the MT242HE is usually the smarter long-term call.

The machine that does not fit the Sumrall-area picture is a sub-compact at 21 or 25 horsepower. A sub-compact moves comfortably around a small yard, but it struggles through August grass with a 5-foot cutter and will not move a round bale with any confidence. If you are doing real land work, a compact is the entry point. That difference shows up fast the first summer you own one.

MT347HC cab tractor, Dykes Motors Collins MS

If you spend serious time on the tractor, more than a few weekend hours, the MT347HC changes the conversation. It is a 47 HP cab tractor on a hydrostatic transmission, with factory heat and air conditioning included. A cab in south Mississippi is not a luxury once you are past mid-June. August on an open-station tractor in Lamar County is a very different experience than August in a sealed cab. The MT347HC hitch lifts 2,755 pounds and runs the LL3003 loader at 2,506 pounds of lift. It fits buyers who are on the tractor most weeks and want to stay comfortable doing it.

LS backs every tractor in our lineup with a 6-year limited powertrain warranty and 2-year bumper-to-bumper coverage, no deductible. On financing, select MT2 models qualify for 0% for 120 months, and the MT3 series runs 0% for 96 months on qualifying credit. Current offers are on our financing page.
