About the Honda Civic.

The Civic is Honda's compact sedan (and hatchback on newer generations) and one of the longest-running nameplates in the business. Trim levels run LX, Sport, EX, Touring, and on performance models, Si and Type R. The current 11th-generation Civic (2022+) and the previous 10th-generation (2016-2021) both offer a 2.0L naturally aspirated four-cylinder or a 1.5L turbocharged four-cylinder, paired with a CVT or a manual transmission on Sport and Si trims. The 2.0L is the base engine — simple, reliable, fuel-efficient. The 1.5T makes more power and better highway fuel economy. The Civic Si and Type R are the performance versions for buyers who want a hot hatch experience. Front-wheel drive only. South Mississippi buyers around Collins like the Civic for first-car duty, commute duty, and as a fuel-efficient second car for the family. The platform is comfortable for adults, fuel economy is excellent — high 30s on the highway is normal — and the interior tech on newer models is genuinely good. The Civic has earned a reputation for getting to high miles without expensive surprises if maintained properly.

Why buy a used Honda Civic?

The Civic is one of the best small-car buys on the market. The 2.0L naturally aspirated engine is well-known, well-proven, and inexpensive to maintain. Fuel economy is real — many owners report mid-30s combined and 40+ on long highway drives. The interior on 2016+ models is more polished than most compact cars at the same price, and the back seat is large for the class. Cargo room in the hatchback variants is excellent for a small car. Resale is strong, parts are cheap and available everywhere, and a Civic is one of the easier vehicles for a new driver to handle. Insurance costs tend to be reasonable. If you're looking for a car that won't break the bank to buy, drive, or maintain, the Civic is one of the smartest options on the used market.

What to watch for on a used Honda Civic.

The 2016-2018 Civic with the 1.5T engine had oil dilution issues similar to the CR-V — gasoline mixing into engine oil in cold-weather use. Less of a problem in Mississippi than in northern climates but still worth checking. Look at the oil level and smell for any unusual fuel odor. Some 2016-2018 1.5T models also had reports of cracked engine blocks, though it was a small percentage and Honda addressed many under warranty. 2006-2011 Civics with the 1.8L engine had reports of cracked engine blocks on certain years — most are off the road now but worth a price check if one shows up. CVT transmissions are reliable when maintained but require scheduled fluid changes — ask for service records. AC compressor failures have been reported at higher miles. Beyond that, normal wear items — brakes, suspension bushings, tires. We pull a CARFAX on every Civic before it goes on the lot.
