About the Honda Accord.

The Accord is Honda's midsize sedan and one of the most well-rounded cars on the road. Trim levels have varied by generation but generally run LX, Sport, EX, EX-L, and Touring. The current 10th-generation Accord (2018+) uses either a 1.5L turbocharged four-cylinder or a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder (the latter shared with the Civic Type R), paired with either a CVT or a 10-speed automatic. The previous 9th-gen Accord (2013-2017) used a 2.4L naturally aspirated four-cylinder or a 3.5L V6. The Accord has always been the driver's car of the midsize sedan segment — it handles better than a Camry, the interior is laid out for someone who actually likes driving, and the V6 models in particular are quick. Front-wheel drive only across the lineup. South Mississippi buyers around Collins tend to like the Accord for commute duty, for families that want a roomy sedan, and for drivers who want a car that's enjoyable to drive but still dependable enough to put 200,000 miles on. Cargo room is excellent for a sedan, the back seat is genuinely spacious, and fuel economy on the 1.5T is in the mid-30s on the highway.

Why buy a used Honda Accord?

Accords are the rare car that's both fun to drive and dependable for the long haul. Honda's reputation for longevity is well-earned, and the Accord platform has been refined over many generations of production. The 2.4L naturally aspirated engine in 2013-2017 models is bulletproof if maintained. The current 1.5T and 2.0T engines deliver real power and fuel economy, with the 2.0T in particular offering genuine performance from a family sedan. Interior quality is a step above most competitors at the same price, and the back seat is one of the most spacious in the segment. Resale is strong, parts are cheap and available, and any shop can work on one. Fuel economy is excellent across the lineup, and the hybrid (when equipped) puts up some of the best numbers in the segment. For the buyer who wants a midsize sedan that's not boring, the Accord is the answer.

What to watch for on a used Honda Accord.

The 2008-2012 Accord V6 had reports of excessive oil consumption — VCM (Variable Cylinder Management) was the suspected cause, and some owners disabled the VCM to address it. Check oil consumption on any V6 from that era. The 2018+ 1.5T engine had reports of oil dilution similar to the CR-V — gasoline mixing into the oil in cold-weather use. Less severe than the CR-V issue because Accords often live in warmer climates, but worth checking the oil smell and level. The CVT transmissions in newer Accords are reliable but require scheduled fluid changes — ask for service records. 2003-2007 V6 Accords had transmission failures — that generation is largely off the used market now but worth knowing if one shows up cheap. AC compressors can fail at higher miles on 2008-2012 Accords. Brakes wear normally, suspension wears normally, no major chronic electrical issues. We pull a CARFAX on every Accord before it goes on the lot.
