Mid Season Mower Service for a South Mississippi Summer
By July a mower here has done half a season of hard work. What to check yourself, what to watch for, and when to bring it to the shop in Collins.
The mowing season in South Mississippi runs longer than almost anywhere in the country. Grass here starts moving in March and does not quit until November. By the middle of July, a mower has already done what a machine up north does in a full year. That is why the middle of the season, not the end, is when a checkup earns its keep.

What you can check yourself
You do not need a shop for any of this, just ten minutes and a flat spot.
Blades. Look at the grass, not the blade. Torn, ragged tips that brown out a day after mowing mean the blades are dull or nicked. Sharp blades cut clean, use less fuel, and stress the deck less.
Air filter. Sandy yards and dry July weeks load a filter fast. A dirty filter makes the engine run rich and weak. Check it more often than the calendar says when conditions are dusty, and follow your operator manual for the replacement interval.
Deck. Wet spring clippings cake under the deck and hold moisture against the steel. Scrape it out. A clean deck cuts better and lasts longer.
Tires. Uneven tire pressure is the most common reason a zero turn cuts uneven. Check all four against the pressures in the manual before blaming the deck.
Grease and oil. Your operator manual lists the grease points and the oil interval in hours. Hour meters do not lie. If you have never checked yours, this is the week.
What to listen for
Machines announce problems before they quit. A squeal at blade engagement usually means a belt or an idler. A rumble or growl from the deck at speed often means a spindle bearing on its way out. Catching a bearing early is a small job. Letting it go long enough to wobble takes the belt, and sometimes the spindle housing, with it.
If you hear something new, note when it happens, at startup, at blade engagement, or under load. That one detail saves real diagnostic time when you call.
When the shop makes sense
Our service department handles Ferris mower service, LS tractor service, and auto repair, all with genuine parts. Warranty work on machines like these is one reason genuine parts matter, and we stock the common wear items so a mid season repair does not become a two week wait.
If you would rather do the work yourself, we will sell you the right parts and tell you what the job involves. Honest answer either way.
Call the service department at (601) 336-2541, or come by 3069 Hwy 49 in Collins and we will take a look.
