LS Tractor Tires: Industrial, VT, and R14 Radial Compared

Industrial, VT, and R14 radial tires come standard on different LS models. Here is what each does well and how to pick the right fit for South Mississippi land.

When you start comparing LS tractors side by side, one thing jumps out pretty fast. The specs list different tire types depending on the model. The compact tractors in our LS lineup come with industrial tires on some models, VT on others, and R14 radials on the cab units and utility tractors. Those choices are not random. Each type suits a different kind of land and a different kind of work, and LS pairs them deliberately.

Here is what each tire type means if you are buying a tractor to work South Mississippi land.

Industrial Tires

Industrial tires have deep, angled lugs, similar to what you would see on a construction machine. The MT226E (24.6 HP gear tractor) and the MT345E and MT355E (45 HP and 55 HP gear models in the MT3 series) ship on industrial rubber as their standard configuration.

The reasons come down to the work those models are built for. On gravel driveways and packed clay, industrial lugs grip and track straight. In Covington County, where most pasture roads are gravel and most fields sit on red clay, that grip matters on a daily basis. Industrial tires also handle rough ground, roots, and debris without wearing down as fast as a turf profile tire.

The trade-off is straightforward. They will tear sod. If you need to cross a maintained yard regularly, the lug pattern rips grass on turns. For a property where most of the work happens in the field or on gravel, that is not a concern. For someone who parks the tractor near the house and crosses a yard every time they use it, it is worth thinking through before you buy.

VT Tires

VT stands for versatile, and the name fits. The MT232HE (31.7 HP HST) and the MT242HE (42.5 HP HST) ship on VT tires as their standard configuration. The center rib rolls smoothly across grass without the sod damage an industrial lug causes. The outer shoulder lugs handle traction in the pasture without sliding in wet conditions.

VT tires work for the buyer who spends time in both places, the yard and the field, and does not want to create ruts crossing between them. Most of the 10 to 30 acre properties we see around south Mississippi fit that profile. Loader work, mowing, gravel, light field use. The VT tire handles all of it without requiring the owner to pick a lane.

The real limit: in deep clay or heavy pulling situations, VT tires give up grip to a pure industrial lug. They are a compromise, and a well-suited one for most buyers in this part of the state.

R14 Radial Tires

Radial construction means the tire cords run perpendicular to the direction of travel. That gives a wider footprint and a smoother ride compared to a standard ag lug tire. The LS cab models, including the MT342HC, MT347HC, MT352HC, and MT357HC, and the MT463 utility tractor all ship on R14 radials.

They come standard on cab units for a reason. When you are sealed inside a cab and running the tractor all day, the reduced vibration from a radial tire matters. The wider footprint also puts more rubber on the ground, which helps traction without the aggressive soil disruption of a deep lug.

For the utility tractors, radials handle higher speeds and heavier frames. The MT463 is a 63 HP machine that will see real road use, moving between fields or traveling a farm property. Radials are more stable at those speeds than a standard ag lug tire.

What to Take Away

Most LS buyers in south Mississippi will be well served by the factory tire configuration. LS pairs each model with the tire type that matches how that machine gets used in the real world. The gear compact tractors, built for field work and gravel, get industrial tires. The HST compacts, which go back and forth between the house and the pasture, get VT. The cab tractors and utility machines, meant for long days and real transport, get radials.

If you want more power and more tire options, the LS utility tractors start at 58 HP with R14 radials on every model. The sub-compact lineup runs hydrostatic with smaller ag tires suited for tight spaces and light work. And for the compact series with all three tire types represented, the model pages at LS compact tractors break it down by model.

If you want to look at them in person and talk through which configuration makes sense for your land, come out to 3069 Hwy 49 in Collins, or call (601) 516-7255. Seeing the tires side by side on the lot takes about ten minutes and answers most of the questions. Financing options are available on all of them.
