What the LS Tractor 6-Year Powertrain Warranty Covers

LS backs every new tractor with a 6-year powertrain warranty and 2-year bumper-to-bumper, no deductible. Here is what that means in plain English.

When someone comes in to look at a tractor, one of the first questions we get after horsepower and price is about the warranty. It is a fair question. A tractor is a real purchase, and you want to know what happens if something goes wrong in year three.

Every new LS tractor sold at Dykes Motors carries a 6-year limited powertrain warranty plus a 2-year bumper-to-bumper warranty. No deductible on either one. That coverage applies to every compact tractor and utility tractor in our LS lineup, and it is one of the reasons we chose to carry LS over other brands.

What "powertrain" actually means

Powertrain coverage includes the engine, transmission, and drivetrain. On an LS compact, that is the diesel engine and its internal components, the hydrostatic or gear transmission, the front axle, and the four-wheel-drive system. These are the parts that cost real money to repair if they fail before their time.

Take the MT232HE as an example. It runs a 31.7 HP Yanmar-built diesel on a hydrostatic transmission. Buy one today, and that engine and transmission are covered through mid-2032. Most folks in Covington County are not putting enough hours on a tractor to wear one of those engines out in six years. The warranty is there for the rare case where something fails early, but six years is long enough that most new owners will never need it.

The same coverage follows you up through the utility line. The MT463 and MT473CPS at 63 and 73 HP, the MT573CPS with its 6,614-pound hitch, the MT7 series. Six-year powertrain warranty across the board.

The 2-year bumper-to-bumper

The bumper-to-bumper warranty runs for the first two years and covers the electrical system, hydraulics, PTO, three-point hitch components, and the rest of the tractor beyond the powertrain. Switches, gauges, hydraulic cylinders, and remotes are the parts that show up most in warranty claims during the break-in period on any brand. LS covers them for two full years, no deductible.

What it does not cover

Wear items are not covered under warranty, and they should not be. Tires, belts, filters, and blades wear down with use. That is maintenance, not a defect. The warranty also does not cover damage from neglect, misuse, or modifications that void the terms. Read the warranty document that comes with your tractor for the full exclusion list. We will walk you through it at the time of purchase.

Why no deductible matters

Some warranty programs charge a deductible per repair visit. On a $30,000 tractor, even a $150 deductible per visit adds up quickly if you need more than one repair in the first few years. LS's warranty has no deductible. If your tractor needs a warranty repair, the work gets done at no cost to you.

Who does the work

Warranty repairs go through an authorized LS dealer. Dykes Motors is the authorized LS dealer for Covington County and the surrounding area. If your tractor needs warranty service, you bring it to us at 3069 Hwy 49 in Collins. We diagnose it, handle the claim with LS, and you pick it up done. You do not have to ship it out of state or track down a regional service center.

New tractor versus used, and what the warranty does to that math

The warranty question matters most when buyers are comparing a new LS to a used tractor from an auction or private seller. A used tractor might look like a deal on price, but if the transmission goes at hour 600 and there is no coverage left, that deal gets expensive fast. Six years of powertrain coverage on a new LS is a real financial backstop that a used machine cannot offer.

That is not an argument against buying used tractors in general. Plenty of people run reliable used iron for decades. But if you are buying your first tractor and you are not yet confident in your ability to diagnose problems early, the warranty is worth a lot.

Who should think hardest about this

First-time tractor owners. If you have run tractors for twenty years, you probably catch most problems before they become expensive. If this is your first, the warranty covers you while you are still learning the machine. You should not have to worry about a major mechanical failure during your first hay season.

If you are comparing LS to other brands, ask the same question on both sides: how many years, what does it cover, and is there a deductible. The conversation tends to go short pretty fast on the other side.
