The extra power is most obvious in August when the grass has gotten ahead of you, or when you are grading a rough farm road after a week of rain. Both compact models come standard with 4WD and a Category I hitch rated at 1,808 pounds of lift.

Who might want to step up to the MT3

If your Jones County operation runs 60 acres or more of active pasture, or you are cutting hay and handling heavier implements, the MT3 series is worth a look. The MT347HC is a 47 horsepower cab tractor with a hydrostatic drive and a hitch rated at 2,755 pounds. The sealed factory cab with heat and air conditioning earns its cost by early July. Who might not need a compact

If your place is 10 acres or less, mostly flat, and your main jobs are mowing and light cleanup, a sub-compact in the 21 to 25 horsepower range may be enough. That said, most Jones County properties have some combination of rough access road, timber edge work, and soft low ground that will work a sub-compact harder than it should have to go. If your land has any of those, you will be happier in the compact class from the start.
